Heavy rain leads to flood warnings in Vic

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for Victoria's east with heavy rains forecast.

Heavy rain across Victoria's Gippsland region could lead to flash flooding and cause rivers to burst their banks.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Dean Stewart says there's already been reasonable rain in East Gippsland and Monday could see more than 100 millimetres fall in parts of the district.

"The rainfall rates may be heavy enough to lead to flash flooding and the rainfall totals are going to accumulate and that's likely to lead to some river flooding through the eastern part of the state as well," Mr Steward told AAP on Monday.
