Heavy rain across parts of Tasmania has closed some roads and sparked flood warnings.

Police say sections of Launceston's West Tamar Road are shut following a nearby land slide.

In the 24 hours up to 9am the Bureau of Meteorology measured rainfall in excess of 70mm at some northern centres, while a state-wide flood watch is in place as well as warnings for the Mersey, Meander, South Esk and North Esk rivers.
