Rock band Guns N’ Roses have issued an apology to their Melbourne fans after they greeted the crowd at the MCG with “Hello Sydney” on Tuesday night.

The chorus of cheers that greeted the band’s arrival quickly descended into boos after guitar technician, McBob, seemed to forget where he was.

“Sydney, you wanted the best, they’re stuck in traffic, so here’s what you get,” McBob yelled, before introducing the legendary rockers with a rousing “Hello Sydney”.

The band swiftly addressed the slip-up on social media, apologising to the 70,000 fans that had turned out to see the band’s first Melbourne show in nearly 25 years.

“Accidentally after 30 years McBob made an error, we’re truly sorry. Thank you for coming out tonight!”
Lead guitarist Slash followed up with a more expletive-filled apology, tweeting: “Melbourne, thank you for an awesome f***ing evening! Apologies for the Spinal Tap intro! But we had a great f***ing time tonight! Cheers!”

The three founding members – Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan – had not played together for Australian fans since their 1993 Calder Park concert.

Any hard feelings over the band’s opening blunder were quickly forgotten as the rockers launched into a blistering rendition of 'Mr Brownstone'before belting out 'Welcome to the Jungle'.

Guns N’ Roses will wrap up their Australian tour with concerts in Adelaide and Perth.
