Helping resocialise victims of torture

A new event in South Australia is hoping to help resocialise refugees who have experienced torture and trauma.

Coming to turns with the past while trying to forge a new life in a new country can be one of the most daunting tasks for refugees - especially those who've experienced torture and trauma.

This weekend a South Australian support network called STTARS - the Survivors of Torture and Trauma Assistance and Rehabilitation Service - held an inaugural family fun day to help the resocialisation process.

The event isn't open to the public, but to STTARS clients, in the hope they can forge social bonds that will assist each other's recoveries.

STTARS' community development team leader Lynn Bayley told Karen Ashford it's a step towards reducing the marginalisation many refugees feel.
