Hewitt: match fixing allegations a joke

Retiring champion Lleyton Hewitt says leading tennis players being subjected to questions about match fixing is a joke.

Lleyton Hewitt says the match fixing scandal rocking tennis "is a joke", with the former world No.1 promising serious backlash to anyone accusing him of acting corruptly.

Hewitt is disgusted to have his name being bandied about on blogs linking him to suspicious matches.

The retiring grand slam champion was asked for his feelings about leading players having to address the issue of match fixing during the Australian Open following his second-round loss to David Ferrer on Thursday night.

"I think it's a joke to deal with it," Hewitt said.

"Obviously, yeah, there's no possible way. I know my name's now been thrown into it. I don't think anyone here would think that I've done anything corruption (sic) or match fixing.

"It's just absurd.

"For anyone that tries to go any further with it, then good luck. Take me on with it.

"Yeah, it's disappointing. I think throwing my name out there with it makes the whole thing an absolute farce."
