High Court never crossed Brandis' mind

Attorney-General George Brandis says he hasn't thought about going for a spot on the High Court bench once the chief justice retires next year.

Attorney-General George Brandis has all but ruled out putting his hat in the ring for a spot on the High Court bench, saying the thought has never crossed his mind.

A position is due to become available next year when Chief Justice Robert French retires, but Senator Brandis says he's just been re-endorsed by his party to lead the Senate ticket.

"That is the only thing on my mind," he told ABC television, adding he quit the bar six years ago to pursue a career in politics.
