Lucy Turnbull has shared high-fives with a one-year-old while riding the New York subway.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his wife jumped aboard one of the world's most used metro systems for the second time in two days on Sunday morning during their visit to the Big Apple.
Fresh from visiting Australian-owned coffee shop Bluestone Lane, the pair met an African American family travelling on the subway.
"Where are you heading today," Mr Turnbull asked the mother.
"Brooklyn," she replied.
"We're from Australia. We're just visiting the city for a few days," he said, not revealing who he was.
Mrs Turnbull asked how old her daughter in a pram next to them was.
"One," she said.
"We have a little grand daughter who's one," Mr Turnbull told the woman.
Putting out her hand, Mrs Turnbull gave the child high-fives.
Riding just one stop back to their hotel, Mr Turnbull farewelled the passengers.
"Good to see you, have a great day in Brooklyn."
On Saturday the pair rode two stops from the 9/11 memorial and museum.
