High temps, dangerous swells for NSW

If you're heading to the beach to escape the warm weather be prepared for dangerous swells as the effects of Cyclone Winston reach Australia.

As hot weather has Sydneysiders flocking to the beach, there are warnings of dangerous swells as the last gusts of Cyclone Winston reach Australia.

Despite autumn being just days away, the Bureau of Meteorology has forecast more warm days on the way.

A cool change is expected to bring temperatures back to the high 20Cs from Friday, before hitting the 30Cs again by Wednesday.

But the effects of Cyclone Winston, which killed 42 people when it struck Fiji last weekend, are expected to cause dangerous swells along the NSW coast as they hit the Australian coast this weekend.

Volunteer lifesavers are preparing for a busy weekend with waves up to three metres expected on Saturday.

Swimmers, surfers, rockfishers and recreational boaters are being warned to take extra care from Friday when swells are expected to reach between 1.5 and 2.5 metres.

"We're anticipating the swell to be quite powerful his weekend, so please if you have any doubt about your ability to handle the conditions it is best not to go out," NSW Lifesaving manager Andy Kent said.

Beach closures would be determined by lifesavers on the day, he said.
