JAGUARES 27 BULLS 12
Two tries in the last 20 minutes handed Argentina's Jaguares their first win of the new Super Rugby season with a comfortable victory over South Africa's Bulls after a scrappy contest played out in heavy rain.
The Bulls led 12-9 when flyhalf Handre Pollard converted his fourth penalty on the hour mark but replacement Rodrigo Bruni went over off the catch-and-drive and winger Bautista Delguy scored on the overlap to secure the victory.
The result was a tonic for the ambitious Argentines, who lost 25-16 at home to the Lions last weekend, and a disappointment for the visitors, who smashed the Stormers in their opener.
STORMERS 19 LIONS 17
Replacement scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies scored a try in the 86th minute as the Stormers claimed a first win of the Super Rugby season in a scrappy South African derby at Newlands.
Loose-forward Kwagga Smith and number eight Warren Whiteley scored tries for the Lions in the first half as they led 14-6 at the break but they allowed the home team to stay in the contest as they gave away a succession of penalties.
From the last of those, Stormers captain Siya Kolisi had initially asked wing SP Marais to kick for touch to set up an attacking line-out but changed his mind and opted for a scrum, from which Jantjies found the smallest of gaps to run through and score under the posts.
The Lions will be concerned about Whiteley, who has been unlucky with injuries in the last two years and had to leave the field in the first half with what looked a pectoral problem.
SHARKS 26 AUCKLAND BLUES 7
Three unanswered tries in the first half set the foundation for a second win of the season for Sharks as they took full advantage of the hot conditions in Durban to beat their New Zealand visitors.
A try on his home debut at King's Park for fullback Aphelele Fassi in the seventh minute was followed by scores from Akker van der Merwe and Robert du Preez, both at the end of driving mauls, for a 19-0 halftime lead.
It took the Blues just over an hour to get their try, as debutant Tanielu Tele'a went over with his first opportunity after coming on as a replacement.
But as the Auckland side looked to finish strongly, Sharks back Curwin Bosch picked up a loose ball to run almost the length of the field for the Sharks' fourth and bonus-point try just before the final whistle.
ACT BRUMBIES 54 CHIEFS 17
The ACT Brumbies ended Australian fears of another long losing streak to New Zealand sides in Super Rugby with a stunning eight-try demolition of the Waikato Chiefs in Canberra on Saturday.
Edged by the Melbourne Rebels at home in week one, the Brumbies were marshalled brilliantly by flyhalf-captain Christian Lealiifano and mixed backline flair with their usual forward muscle.
Tevita Kuridrani and Chance Peni each scored try doubles, with Tom Banks, Lachlan McCaffrey, Josh Mann-Rea and Folau Fainga'a also crossing for the home side who led 33-10 at half-time.
Ataata Moeakiola and Samisoni Taukei'aho scored the Chiefs' two tries, with captain Brodie Retallick left with little to celebrate in his milestone 100th Super Rugby match.
CRUSADERS 38 HURRICANES 22
The Canterbury Crusaders condemned the Wellington Hurricanes to another miserable trip to Christchurch on Saturday with a clinical thrashing that secured their second win of the season.
Having survived a big scare away to the Auckland Blues in their season-opener, the double defending champions were back to their marauding best at home where they belted the Hurricanes in last year's semi-finals.
Lock Scott Barrett and flyhalf Richie Mo'unga both scored a brace of tries, with Jordan Taufua and George Bridge also crossing.
Winger Ben Lam scored two tries for the Hurricanes, with Wes Goosen and TJ Perenara also grabbing a consolation try in the second half after the visitors went to the break 24-0 down.
SUNWOLVES 30 WARATAHS 31
The New South Wales Waratahs survived a huge scare to claim their first win of the season in a scrappy match against the Sunwolves at Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium.
Sunwolves winger Gerhard van den Heever scored two tries, with his second in the 70th minute raising the Tokyo-based team's hopes of snatching an unlikely win.
Flyhalf Hayden Parker slotted the conversion into the teeth of a fierce breeze to trim the Sunwolves' lead to a point but missed a drop-goal attempt in the dying minutes, allowing the Sydney-based Waratahs to hang on for an unconvincing win.
Wallabies fullback Israel Folau scored two first-half tries but the Waratahs may take little else from their error-strewn display.
HIGHLANDERS 36 REDS 31
Dillon Hunt scored a match-winning try with six minutes remaining as the Highlanders had to fight back for the second successive week before recording victory over the Reds in Dunedin.
Shannon Frizell scored two tries while Rob Thompson and Ben Smith also crossed for the Highlanders, who looked to have taken control of the game just before halftime but made numerous errors that allowed the young Reds team to stay in the match.
Winger Chris Feauai-Sautia, scrumhalf Moses Sorovi, lock Izack Rodda and debutant prop Feao Fotuaika scored tries for the visitors.
