Historic first visit by Albanian foreign minister

In an interview with SBS, Albania's foreign minister talks about strengthening ties with Australia, Albania's advocacy for international recognition of Kosovo and its priorities after recently assuming the presidency of the Council of Europe.

Albania is looking to upgrade diplomatic and cultural relations with Australia.

Albania's Foreign Minister, Dr Edmond Panariti, is the first Albanian government minister to visit Australia.

He has met his counterpart, Bob Carr, other federal government ministers and the Opposition.

Dr Panariti told SBS Radio's Kristina Kukolja that discussions also covered mining, infra-structure and tourism.
