City officials are searching for a prankster who vandalised a historic statue with "googly eyes" last week in the US city of Savannah.
The city posted a "Who did this" on Facebook after the statue of Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene, in Johnson Square, received a "funny" makeover.
"Who did this?! Someone placed googly eyes on our historic #NathanaelGreene statue in #JohnsonSquare. It may look funny but harming our historic monuments and public property is no laughing matter, in fact, it's a crime," the post on 11 October read.
The police are looking to find out who is responsible and city officials are calling for anyone with information to come forward.
After the Facebook post, the hashtag 'googly eye bandit' trended on Twitter and many social media users couldn't help but make a light-hearted joke at the prank.
Greene was made a major general in the American Revolution in 1776 and served with George Washington. After the war, he settled in 1785 on an estate near Savannah.
He died aged 43 in Mulberry Grove, Georgia, the following year.
