A tapestry detailing Danish architect Jorn Utzon's original vision for the Sydney Opera House has been unveiled on the walls of the Australian icon.
The Les Des Sont Jetes - The Dice Are Cast - was personally commissioned by Utzon in a rare collaboration with renowned Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier in 1960.
The Dane won the Sydney Opera House design competition in 1957.
The abstract tapestry of red, black and white was woven in France before being delivered to Utzon's home in Denmark in the 1960s, where it is believed to have remained until it was won at auction by the opera house through the support of its donors last year.
It stands at about two metres high and 3.5 metres wide.
"The cost of the tapestry, including buyers premium, was $A540,000," a Sydney Opera House spokesman told AAP on Tuesday.
More than 50 years after its creation, the tapestry was unveiled in the building's Western Foyers, one of two interiors also designed by Utzon.
"Jorn Utzon always intended the interiors of his masterpiece to be filled with the work of the great artists of his day," Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron said in a statement.
"This is a remarkable work and a remarkable insight into his original vision."
