History and geography one in curriculum

Phonics and a merged history and geography subject are due to be part of the new national curriculum for primary school students.

Primary school students will be taught a new merged history and geography subject under the new national curriculum.

A new humanities and social sciences subject will include the existing topics of history, geography, civics and citizenship, The Australian reported on Saturday.

Schools will also be mandated to teach phonics style reading as part of the curriculum, to be considered when state and territory education ministers meet next month.
