Hobart's BBL form exciting, says Christian

Hobart allrounder Dan Christian believes the Hurricanes have shown enough in back-to-back wins over former team Brisbane to be considered BBL contenders.

He's undone former team Brisbane twice in a week, now Hobart star Dan Christian is aiming for even greater Big Bash League glory.

Christian belted a rapid-fire 56, including a mammoth 117-metre six which landed on the Gabba roof, as the Hurricanes claimed a 15-run win over the Heat on Tuesday night.

The victory means an opening round humiliation against the Sydney Sixers at the SCG is now a distant memory for Christian and his teammates, as they eye off table-topping Sydney Thunder in a New Year's Day clash in Hobart.

The Hurricanes boast an experienced batting lineup, which includes international stars Kumar Sangakkara and Darren Sammy, and ex-Australian Test players Tim Paine and George Bailey.

Hobart's bowling also offers variety and international class with Christian, leg-spinner Cameron Boyce and paceman Shaun Tait having all played Twenty20 cricket for Australia.

It's a mix which leads Christian to believes his new team has the ability to go all the way this summer.

"I think we've got all bases covered," the 32-year-old told AAP.

"Momentum-wise, obviously we had that shocking game in the first round so it's nice to get that bad one out of the way early and hopefully we'll keep winning."

A member of Australia's squads at the past two world Twenty20 championships, Christian isn't, however, viewing this summer as a selection trial for next year's tournament in India.

While he'd be thrilled with a recall to the national T20 team, he admits his time may have passed.

"There's quite a few guys coming through that are doing really, really well," he said.

"If I'm playing good cricket and we're winning games, you never know, but it's certainly not something I've been thinking of."
