Hockeyroos draw with Great Britain

The Hockeyroos have drawn 3-3 with Great Britain in Perth, thanks to Ashleigh Nelson's equalising goal in the 54th minute.

The Australian women's hockey team have secured a 3-3 draw with Great Britain in Perth, in the third match of their six-match series.

Ashleigh Nelson's equalising goal in the 54th minute of the match along with Great Britain's missed penalty corner opportunity late on, helped the Hockeyroos claw their way back into the game to secure the draw at Perth Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

Despite the end result, Hockeyroos coach Adam Commens was clearly frustrated.

"I thought we played well for a new group with the team showcasing seven new players.

"We combined well to create numerous attacks with Great Britain defending doggedly, however, unfortunately we only ended up with a draw rather than a win."

The visitors struck early after being awarded a penalty corner seven minutes in, with Great Britain's Crista Cullen sending an on-target drag flick past Australian goalkeeper Rachael Lynch and into the back of the net.

Australia responded just a minute later, with Gabrielle Nance levelling the match 1-1.

Great Britain was first to strike in the second half with Ellie Watton pushing their lead to 2-1.

Victorian Laura Barden earned Australia a much needed penalty stroke after going one-on-one with Great Britain's keeper, allowing Karri McMahon to slot the ball home and equalise the match for a second time at 2-2.

Great Britain struck again in the 47th minute, before Ashleigh Nelson secured the draw for the home side six minutes before the final siren.

The six-match series remains deadlocked at 1-1 with the fourth match to be played in Perth on Thursday.
