Hockeyroos face Argentina in Trophy opener

Australia's women's hockey team start their bid to win the final edition of the Champions Trophy against three-time defending champions Argentina.

Australia's Hockeyroos will meet Champions Trophy specialists Argentina in their opening match of the tournament's final edition in China.

The schedule for the six-team round-robin competition in November was released on Friday and sees the world No.3 Australians start their campaign in Changzhou against the fourth-ranked South Americans, the three-time defending champions.

Australia, who were invited to compete as the Oceania champions, also play reigning World Cup holders the Netherlands, current Olympic gold medallists Great Britain plus China and Japan.

The Champions Trophy was first held in 1987 and Australia have won it six times, including five in a row between 1991 and 1999.

Australia's most recent triumph was in 2003 when the tournament was staged in Sydney.

The Hockeyroos squad will be named in early November.

Sat Nov 17 v Argentina (6pm AEST)

Sun Nov 18 v Great Britain (4pm)

Tues Nov 19 v Netherlands (4pm)

Thu Nov 22 v China (6pm)

Sat Nov 24 v Japan (4pm)

Sun Nov 25 - Finals TBC.
