Hockeyroos notch third tri-series win

The Hockeyroos have defied freezing conditions to beat New Zealand 3-0 and make it three wins from three at the tri-series tournament in Cromwell.

The Hockeyroos have made it three easy wins from three at the tri-series tournament in wintry Cromwell, New Zealand, outclassing the hosts 3-0.

In temperatures sitting just above freezing, Australia ensured they will play in the final on Sunday courtesy of goals to Savannah Fitzpatrick, Ambrosia Malone and Stephanie Kershaw.

Having opened their campaign with 4-1 wins over the Black Sticks and Japan, the fifth-ranked Hockeyroos are guaranteed to qualify first.

There is little at stake in their last round-robin match against the Japanese, who will play off against New Zealand in a clash of the second- and third-ranked teams on Saturday.

Just five weeks after losing the Commonwealth Games final to New Zealand, a new-look Australian team have had the wood on the tournament hosts.

The tournament in Central Otago brings together three teams who will share the same pool at the World Cup in London in July.
