Hockeyroos ready for crunch Trophy match

The unbeaten Hockeyroos face a key match against world No.1 The Netherlands at the Champions Trophy in China on Tuesday.

World No.1 The Netherlands loom as the perfect test for the Hockeyroos' ambition to end their Champions Trophy title drought.

Coach Paul Gaudoin's team have made a bright start to the final Champions Trophy tournament in Changzhou, China, beating defending champions Argentina 2-1 and reigning Olympic champions Great Britain 2-0.

The results mean they sit second on the standings with six points, behind only their next opponents, the Dutch, on goal difference.

The Hockeyroos and The Netherlands are four points clear of third-placed China, with three points in Tuesday's crunch game set to go a long way toward securing a spot in Sunday's decider.

Six-time champions Australia haven't won the Champions Trophy since 2003.

"It's pleasing to get two wins from two games at the start of this tournament," said Gaudion, whose team still faces round-robin matches against China on Thursday and Japan on Saturday.

"Every game is tough. We've got Holland next.

"We know how tough that is going to be. We're looking forward to that contest."

Gaudoin is intent on sharpening Australia's edge in attack after they squandered chances to increase the margin of victory against Great Britainin the second half.

"We were a bit wasteful there," Gaudoin said.

"We want to tidy that up and hopefully we can hit a few more to make it a bit easier on our defence."
