Hockeyroos score scratchy win over China

Australia have kicked off their World League Finals campaign in Argentina with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over China.

Australia's women's hockey team have started the World League Finals with a far from electrifying 1-0 win over China in Argentina.

There was a 30-minute delay to the start of the match on Saturday (Sunday AEDT) due to power failure at the Estadio Mundialista de hockey stadium in Rosario, and the Hockeyroos also took a while to find their spark.

However, a 43rd-minute drag flick from Georgina Morgan was enough to seal victory in Jodie Kenny's 150th game for the Hockeyroos.

"I was really pleased with some of our younger players today," said Hockeyroos coach Adam Commens.

"Gabrielle Nance and Mariah Williams had a solid performance as did Georgina Morgan."

Australia next play hosts Argentina on Sunday (Monday 11am AEDT) at the eight-nation tournament.
