Fremantle coach Ross Lyon is still unsure whether gun recruit Jesse Hogan will make his Dockers debut on Sunday, although the uncertainty has been offset by a powerhouse opening to their AFL campaign.

Hogan was unavailable for the round one, 82-point demolition of North Melbourne at Optus Stadium, the star forward sitting out the clash on mental health grounds.

It is possible Hogan replaces Hayden Ballantyne who is expected to miss three weeks with a hamstring injury. Brandon Matera is another option to replace Ballantyne now he has served a one-week suspension.

Lyon said he would rely on medical advice before deciding whether to run Hogan against the Suns on the Gold Coast.

"It was a high profile situation last week with Jesse and from my end, I'm in the hands of the experts and it clearly is a medical and wellbeing issue," he said.

"Jesse trained last week and I thought it was very courageous of him to do that when there were 20 cameras focused on a young man who had a wellbeing issue."

Meanwhile, Lyon while couldn't fault his team's performance against the Kangaroos, he said there was no complacency ahead of their assignment at Metricon Stadium.

"We've done our review and we were strong in all aspects of the game," he said.

"I feel like we're coming along well and what I like is we are focused on our preparation for Gold Coast.

"That's what I like about the group at the minute. We're taking every moment and trying to give it our best effort."

Lyon said the Suns had to be respected after their narrow 85-84 loss to St Kilda.

"We'd like to think we're not falling into the bouquet's being thrown around.

"They went to the last second against St Kilda, we have a big challenge going to Gold Coast now," he said.
