Holder unsure about Samuels' Test future

West Indies skipper Jason Holder expects out-of-form veteran Marlon Samuels to return to first-class cricket but is unsure of his Test plans.

Jason Holder says it's up to Marlon Samuels to decide if his Test career is over but West Indies skipper still has faith in the out-of-form veteran.

Samuels had a horror tour of Australia, logging scores of nine, three, zero, 19 and four in the three-Test series.

The 34-year-old never looked like making a score of substance, while his body language was also regularly criticised.

"You have to ask Marlon Samuels that question," Holder said, when asked about Samuels' future in the side.

"He obviously didn't have the best series here but we still have faith in him.

"He's been one of our leading batsmen the last couple of years.

"We have some first-class cricket going on back home at the moment.

"He will go back home at the moment and I guess he'll go home and play that.

"I guess the rest is down to Marlon."

Aside from the dry run during the tour, Samuels was banned from bowling his offspin in international cricket for 12 months because of an illegal action.

A mix-up between the wickets in Sydney with Kraigg Brathwaite, in which he appeared to blame the in-form youngster for being run out, was another low point.

"Horrific running from Marlon Samuels there," Shane Warne said on Channel Nine.

"He hit it in the gap and he was just sort of too cool for school when he took off.

"He just stood in the middle of the wicket and blames his partner .. sorry Marlon, it's all your fault."

Holder singled out the batting of Brathwaite, Darren Bravo and Denesh Ramdin when asked to nominate some positives from the series his side lost 2-0.

"We just showed signs that once we apply ourselves as batsmen we can make runs against good opposition," he said.

"We really improved as time went on.

"We didn't start well in the first Test match but we really fought in Melbourne.

"We obviously need to tighten up a lot more on our bowling department."
