Someone forgot to tell Jon Holland that spin bowlers haven't had much luck lately at Bellerive Oval.
The Victorian left-armer took a five-wicket haul in Hobart on Monday, helping his side run through Tasmania's batsmen for a miserly 203.
In doing so he is now the Sheffield Shield's No.1 wicket taker for the season.
His 5-49 and six maidens from 17.1 overs was an assertive start for the unbeaten Bushrangers in the day-night fixture in which they are 3-54 in reply at stumps.
Not a single wicket fell to spin bowling during South Africa's convincing Test victory over Australia at Bellerive in November.
Tasmanian selectors have since relegated legbreaker Cameron Boyce to 12th man, opting instead to rely on a pace attack.
But Holland's efforts might inspire a re-think for teams taking to the Bellerive pitch.
Despite limping from the ground in the 11th over before even bowling a delivery, Holland made a quick comeback and soon put a dent in the depleted Tassie batting line-up.
He now boasts 25 wickets for the season.
John Hastings (2-29) and Chris Tremain (2-42) were also useful on Monday.
Half centuries to Tasmania's No.6 Dom Michael (54) and No.8 Simon Milenko (52) were staunch but couldn't prevent the home side's demise.
Against the unbeaten Bushrangers, Tassie desperately missed regular captain George Bailey and allrounder James Faulkner who are both in Australia's one-day camp.
The Tigers experience is further depleted by the absence of former Test batsman Alex Doolan who is still unfit with a jaw injury.
Fresh from Test duties, stand-in Tigers skipper Jackson Bird won the toss and chose to bat first on Monday.
After the changeover Victoria lost opener Travis Dean (12) early, with Marcus Harris (19) trapped lbw after helping the visitors reach 50.
The dismissal of Marcus Stoinis (16) marked stumps on day one with Scott Boland unbeaten on one and due to resume on Tuesday with new batsman Peter Handscomb.
Holland's Hobart figures come on the back of his 4-25 last round during the Bushrangers' five-wicket win over South Australia but the 29-year-old isn't getting too carried away with what it might mean to national selectors.
"It's always nice to take a few wickets," said Holland, who played two Tests for Australia in Sri Lanka this year.
"Everyone knows their role individually and that's all we concentrate on when we go out there to bowl and I was lucky enough to be the one to take the wickets today."
Milenko admitted the Tigers' dressing room was missing the guidance of Bailey and Faulkner.
"We obviously do miss them - George and Jimmy have a big impact on the team every time they're around," he said.
