A Brisbane pilot remains in a critical but stable condition after the light plane he built himself crashed at Caloundra Airport on the Sunshine Coast.

Pilot Ben Berg was trapped for hours under the wreckage of his Sling 4 after it stalled and flipped on the runway just before midday on Saturday.

A male passenger also had to be freed by emergency crews while two others - a man and a woman - suffered only minor injuries after escaping themselves.

Mr Berg suffered significant lower limb, chest and head injuries and was airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, where he remained in a critical but stable condition on Sunday.
