A group of homeless people have gatecrashed a CEO sleepout in Adelaide.

About six people took a crack at the group of 120 chief executives staying in Whitmore Square overnight - as part of the annual Australia-wide fundraiser - and asked them for money.

St Vincent de Paul chief executive David Wark told AAP the homeless people who gatecrashed the event felt the participants didn't understand their plight.

"They certainly made a couple of comments, saying, 'I don't think sleeping out for one night means you understand what it means to be homeless'. And I think that's fair," he said.
