The NSW Rural Fire Service says police have begun controlled evacuations after a fire jumped containment lines on the state's Central Coast.
The evacuations have begun on High View Road at Pretty Beach, near Gosford, and the RFS is also sending emergency telephone warnings to homes in the area.
An RFS spokeswoman says it's not yet clear how many homes on High View Road had been evacuated, or exactly how in the area many were under threat.
About 75 firefighters are battling the blaze, backed up by three water-bombing aircraft and 18 trucks.
The cause is unknown, but police are investigating reports a boatload of people lit an open fire on the beach last night and failed to douse it properly before leaving.
