Detectives say the death of a woman whose body was dumped in a Sydney park is "definitely suspicious".
A council worker made the gruesome discovery at Buffalo Creek Reserve at Hunters Hill about 7.30am on Wednesday.
Police have confirmed the body, who was partially clothed, is that of a woman.
Detective Superintendent David Waddell says NSW Police are yet to formally identify the woman.
"There's been no identification at this stage - it's very early stages," he told reporters in Sydney.
"(But) we are treating it (the death) as suspicious. At this stage, it's definitely suspicious."
A crime scene has been established at the reserve and officers are speaking to witnesses and seeking CCTV footage.
Forensic officers examined what appear to be drag marks stretching 30 metres across the path leading towards where the body was found.
Det Supt Waddell refused to comment on whether the marks are related to the incident.
Extensive police tape now surrounds the brightly-coloured playground as detectives investigate how the person died.
Buffalo Creek Park is in an affluent area of Sydney and the playground, featuring a flying fox, is popular among children.
Keith Booth and his two grandchildren were among those turned away by police when they arrived at the park.
"You always wonder if it is suspicious is everyone safe, is it someone local or is it someone from out of town? It's a little bit worrying, you worry for the safety of the children," Mr Booth said.
"Especially if they go and play hide and seek and rummage around in the bush, the last thing you want is for them to find something like that or anyone to find something like that."
