Hoon does burnouts on Qld baby graves

Queensland police are looking for the person who did burnouts as they drove over 30 baby graves and plaques in a cemetery.

A hoon doing burnouts has left tyres marks on 30 babies' graves in far north Queensland.

The driver of a silver-coloured van is believed to be responsible for the incident at Edmonton Lawn Cemetery in Cairns sometime between 3.30pm on Friday and 6.45am on Monday.

Senior Sergeant Jason Smith says he's appalled and urged any witnesses to come forward.

"We've already received information from a member of the public who saw a silver-coloured van driving on the area," he said in a statement on Monday.

"It's believed the vehicle has travelled through a garden bed from Hardy Rd before spinning wheels, causing damage to approximately 30 graves."
