Hope of weekend rain for drought-hit farmers

There's a chance areas of NSW and Queensland affected by the worst drought in 50 years will get some decent rain this weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology says 10-15mm may fall in southeast Queensland and northern NSW, but also warns it's likely to be patchy.

"While there'll be rain in the Nth East it's still too early to safely say what the impacts will be in #drought areas," the BOM tweeted.
The bureau says Tamworth and Armidale in NSW's New England region and surrounding areas could receive between 5mm and 10mm of rain from Friday.

The showers are forecast to extend south through to Sydney and as far south as Bateman's Bay on the south coast.

The rain is expected to continue into Saturday, with the heaviest falls of up to 50mm forecast around Narrabri, Inverell and Moree.
There's also some chance of between 5mm and 10mm of rain falling around Wagga Wagga in NSW's Riverina, and further north toward Griffith and Cobar.

In Queensland, up to 10mm of rain is forecast to fall in and around Brisbane, and in areas stretching west to Bollon and north to Roma.

Bundaberg and Emerald are also expected to receive showers.

"Storms may produce isolated heavier falls in #Queensland, but the results are likely to be patchy," the bureau tweeted.

"Fingers crossed for our farmers."
