Horde of robots coming to Brisbane

Robots that talk, walk, fly and look like humans will gather in Brisbane for the Queensland University of Technology's Robotronica event.

A swarm of flying robots and a robotic clone of a Japanese professor are about to make an appearance in Brisbane.

Robots of all sizes and purposes from across the globe will be on show at the Queensland University of Technology's new Science and Engineering Centre on August 18.

Robotronica is a free event and will feature 30 flying robots, or drones, from Austria that will dance in formation in the night sky.

Geminoid, a robot clone of maker Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro, will give insight into life as a robot and is said to look so much like it's creator that people find it hard to tell them apart.

Prof Ishiguro views his research into human-like robotics as a way to more fully understand what it is to be human.

Four dancing humanoid robots, a baby seal robot, and a lady-in-white robot that will "haunt" the halls of Queensland's Old Government House, are part of the event from 11am (AEST).
