Horn invited into Queensland Origin camp

Newly boxing world champion Jeff Horn has been invited into Queensland's State of Origin game three camp, taking top billing from Johnathan Thurston.

As a State of Origin guest, Johnathan Thurston is pretty hard to beat.

But the future Immortal has been relegated to undercard status after Queensland unveiled their trump card for this week's State of Origin game three camp on the Gold Coast - newly crowned world champion boxer Jeff Horn.

Horn stunned the world with his unanimous points win over boxing great Manny Pacquiao to claim the WBO welterweight crown in Brisbane on Sunday.

Walters attended the fight with fellow Maroons selector Gene Miles at a packed Suncorp Stadium - the same venue where Queensland hope to deliver a knockout blow to NSW next week.

"Like all Queenslanders I was very proud of his effort," Walters said of Horn.

"He was up against it, no doubt. In round nine we thought he was gone.

"But he got back up and went again. He typified what Queenslanders were all about."

Walters confirmed Thurston would play a mentor role at the camp as Queensland tried to seal an 11th series win in 12 years.

He said it was the least they could do after Thurston defied a serious shoulder injury to kick the match winning sideline conversion in Origin II.

"He will come down later in the week," Walters said.

"While we can't use him on the field I think it is fair to say we wouldn't be in the position that we are without John's efforts in game two.

"We will use him accordingly for game three."
