Horn offsider climbs world boxing rankings

Jeff Horn's Brisbane stablemate Dennis Hogan has been elevated to No.2 in the WBO rankings, putting him one win away from a shot at a boxing world title.

The same gym that produced Jeff Horn could soon have another world champion boxer in its midst.

Irish-born Dennis Hogan, who trains at Glenn Rushton's Stretton Boxing Club, has been elevated to No.2 in the WBO's super welterweight rankings.

It means Hogan's next fight, against the No.3-ranked Englishman Jimmy Kelly next month at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, is essentially a world title eliminator.

The winner will move into a mandatory position to challenge the WBO belt holder, American Sadam Ali.

The delay of Horn's own title fight against Terence Crawford means he and Rushton will be ringside on April 7 to support Hogan, who has a 26-1-1 record.

Horn was sparring with Hogan to aid his preparations within hours of hearing the fight was delayed because of a right-hand injury to Crawford.

There is still no indication when it will be rescheduled.

Three other members of Rushton's stable will fight on the same night as Hogan, including 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Joe Goodall, who crashed out of qualification for Gold Coast and will be making his professional debut.
