The National Farmers' Union in the UK has used Europe's escalating horsemeat scandal to renew calls on supermarkets to source more local produce.
Peter Kendall, President of the NFU, has urged supermarkets to source their high-quality products from traceable producers in local British farms.
As authorities across Europe have recalled beef products, British farmers are hopeful that the scandal won't affect their industry.
"I think farmers are really frustrated because they do produce to very high standards and it has always been very frustrating to have inferior products coming onto the market place that aren't produced to the same standards that we produce to," said beef farmer Minette Batters.
In a sign of just how out of hand the horsemeat scandal has gotten, Tesco, a large retailer in Britain, have announced they will source more British meats and admitted they haven't had the best relationship with farmers and producers in the UK.
