There have been calls in Australia for a national food policy, as experts warn food shortage could be looming in Australia due to land scarcity, rising imports, the everyday costs of running a farm.

But even before a food shortage, arguably the biggest issue facing growers is still the most obvious - the drought.

Despite figures pointing to the benefits of recent rainfall, experts say it's still not enough to break the big dry.

SBS' Peta-Jane Madam looks at how some growers are overcoming water shortages.
