How Giz can win Supercars title in NZ

How Holden's Shane van Gisbergen can claim a first Supercars championship this weekend in Auckland.

HOW VAN GISBERGEN CAN CLAIM A MAIDEN SUPERCARS TITLE IN AUCKLAND:

Supercars series standings ahead of this weekend's Auckland SuperSprint (second last round of 2016):

* Shane van Gisbergen (Holden) 2812 points

* Jamie Whincup (Holden) 2664pts (148 behind)

* Craig Lowndes (Holden) 2427pts (385 behind)

* Scott McLaughlin (Volvo) 2351pts (461 behind)

* Will Davison (Holden) 2235pts (577 behind)

* Mark Winterbottom (Ford) 2139pts (673 behind)

How van Gisbergen can seal 2016 Supercars title in Auckland with one round left, December's Sydney 500:

* van Gisbergen must win all four 100km races in Auckland this weekend, a total of 300 points

* Nearest rival Whincup must finish outside top 10 in all four races

* That would ensure a 301-point buffer for van Gisbergen leading into Sydney 500

* Only 300 points are on offer at Sydney 500
