How the final round of NBL can play out

Six teams will fight for the final three NBL playoffs spots in the final round of the competition.

WHAT YOUR NBL TEAM NEEDS FROM THE FINAL ROUND

ADELAIDE (17-9)

Final round: Cairns (a) Cairns (h)

Are already assured of a finals spot but will want to arrest a streak of two straight losses.

ILLAWARRA (14-13)

Final round: Brisbane (h)

Mid-table record: vs Perth 2-2 (-5 for-and-against), Sydney 1-3 (-15), New Zealand 2-2 (+11), Melbourne 2-2 (+9), Cairns 1-3 (-16). Total: 8-12 (-16)

A win would secure a spot, but a loss drops them to 14-14 and could see them out of the finals.

MELBOURNE (13-13)

Final round: New Zealand (a), Perth (h)

Mid-table record: vs Illawarra 2-2 (-9 for-and-against), Perth 0-3 (-8), Sydney 3-1 (+7), New Zealand 1-2 (+13), Cairns 3-1 (+5). Total: 9-9 (+8)

Need to win both games to secure a spot in the finals, while one win will put them into a tie-breaker based on their mid-table record.

PERTH (13-13)

Final round: Sydney (h), Melbourne (a)

Mid-table record: vs Illawarra 2-2 (+5 for-and-against), Sydney 2-1 (+8), New Zealand 1-3 (-16), Melbourne 3-0 (+8), Cairns 2-2 (+2). Total: 10-8 (+7)

Two wins will secure a 31st straight finals spot, while one keeps them in contention.

CAIRNS (13-13)

Final round: Adelaide (h), Adelaide (a)

Mid-table record: vs Illawarra 3-1 (+16 for-and-against), Perth 2-2 (-2), Sydney 1-3 (-18), New Zealand 4-0 (+33), Melbourne 1-3 (-5). Total: 11-9 (+24)

Face ladder-leading Adelaide and need at least one win to keep them in contention.

SYDNEY (13-14)

Final round: Perth (a)

Mid-table record: vs Illawarra 3-1 (+15 for-and-against), Perth 1-2 (-8), New Zealand 3-1 (+28), Melbourne 1-3 (-7), Cairns 3-1 (+18). Total: 11-8 (+46)

Andrew Gaze's side must beat Perth to have any hope of making the finals.

NEW ZEALAND (13-14):

Final round: Melbourne (h)

Mid-table record: vs Illawarra 2-2 (-11 for-and-against), Perth 3-1 (+16), Sydney 1-3 (-28), Melbourne 2-1 (-13), Cairns: 0-4 (-33). Total: 8-11 (-69)

Have to beat Melbourne to have any hope of making finals..

BRISBANE (10-17):

Final round: Illawarra (a)

Destined to finish with the spoon after losing 11 of their past 14 games.

* Top four teams qualify for the finals

* In the event of two or more teams being tied, seeding will be based on the respective record and for-and-against from matches played between the teams.
