How your NRL club's halves look long-term

The 2017 NRL season is five weeks away, but already moves have been made made to start the halves merry-go-round for 2018.

CONTRACT STATUS OF YOUR NRL CLUB'S HALVES

BRISBANE: ANTHONY MILFORD (2017) AND BEN HUNT (2017)

Will retain Milford after Hunt signed with St George Illawarra. Have the option of surveying the market for 2018, but could look within at Kodi Nikorima.

CANBERRA: BLAKE AUSTIN (2018) AND AIDAN SEZER (2018)

Their star duo are already locked in for 2018, but don't be surprised if they look to extend one of their contracts early to avoid the dangerous situation.

CANTERBURY: JOSH REYNOLDS (2017) AND MOSES MBYE (2020)

May see an opportunity to shake up their combination. Have long been linked to Kieran Foran and he is again off-contract.

CRONULLA: JAMES MALONEY (2018) AND CHAD TOWNSEND (2017)

Have their key weapon in Maloney locked in for another year and are unlikely to face much competition re-signing Townsend.

GOLD COAST: KANE ELGEY (2018) AND ASHLEY TAYLOR (2018)

Both had been linked to the Broncos in the wake of Ben Hunt's reported departure, but CEO Graham Annesley says he won't be releasing either youngster.

MANLY: BLAKE GREEN (2018) AND DALY CHERRY-EVANS (2023)

Unlikely to be much movement in the Sea Eagles' halves this season, especially with Cherry-Evans signed for life and needing an experienced five-eighth.

MELBOURNE: CAMERON MUNSTER (2019) AND COOPER CRONK (2018)

Unlikely to see much change, however the Storm could enter the market in the back-end of the year to start considering their options for life after Cronk.

NEWCASTLE: JARROD MULLEN (2018) AND TRENT HODKINSON (2018)

Dealt a blow with Mullen's provisional drugs suspension. Potential replacements Jack Cogger and Brock Lamb are both signed until the end of next year, while Jaelen Feeney is off-contract.

NORTH QUEENSLAND: MICHAEL MORGAN (2018) AND JOHNATHAN THURSTON (2017)

Thurston has already publicly committed to the club for one final year in 2018 after he gives up representative duties, and Morgan is safe at No.6 for another two years.

PARRAMATTA: CLINT GUTHERSON (2019) AND COREY NORMAN (2019)

Have both their halves locked in, but Brad Arthur stated last year finding a "real quality" replacement for Kieran Foran with his salary cap money was a priority.

PENRITH: TE MAIRE MARTIN (2018) AND NATHAN CLEARY (2019)

Have young talent locked in for the next two years, and the club has already said their desire to look within won't change.

SOUTH SYDNEY: CODY WALKER (2019) AND ADAM REYNOLDS (2021)

Fought off rivals to secure Reynolds until the end of 2021, but it's uncertain who will partner him in the long-term.

ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA: GARETH WIDDOP (2017) AND DREW HUTCHISON (2017)

Signed Ben Hunt until end of 2022, meaning Widdop or Hutchinson could be let go.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS: LUKE KEARY (2018) AND MITCHELL PEARCE 2017)

Pearce has already reportedly started negotiations with the club and it's hard to see them falling through. Were said to be after Mitchell Moses last year, however their desire to chase him has likely eroded since signing Luke Keary from Souths.

WARRIORS: KIERAN FORAN (2017) AND SHAUN JOHNSON (2017)

It's hard to see Johnson leaving, but nothing is certain with Foran. Warriors will want to keep him but has already been linked to Canterbury and South Sydney.

WESTS TIGERS: MITCHELL MOSES (2017) AND LUKE BROOKS (2017)

Hold the key to the the 2018 halves market, with a number of clubs likely eying off whether Moses or Brooks become available before making their next move.
