Hsu 2nd-round leader in Taiwan, Ko close

Local Wei-Ling Hsu has shot a 5-under 67 to go a stroke ahead of early leader Jodi Ewart Shadoff at the LPGA Taiwan Championship in Taipei.

Wei-Ling Hsu has ridden the support of her home crowd to shoot a 5-under 67 and take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the LPGA Taiwan Championship.

Hsu had a two-round total of 9-under 135 on the Ta Shee Golf and Country Club on Friday, one ahead of first-round leader Jodi Ewart Shadoff, who shot 71.

Former No. 1-ranked Lydia Ko was the big mover with a round-of-the day 66 to move into third place and within two strokes of the lead.

The South Korean-born New Zealander had five birdies on her front nine then stalled somewhat on the back nine until an approach to one foot on the par-4 17th, a shot she called "one of the best of my career," resulted in a birdie.

The best of the Australians, Minjee Lee, shares 19th place with four others after a second round 69 to go with her opening day score of 73.

Sarah Jane Smith and Hannah Green are four shots further back and 13 shots off the lead.

The tournament is the third of five being played on the LPGA's annual Asian swing. Next week, it's the Toto Japan Classic, followed by the Blue Bay LPGA on Hainan Island, China.
