Hughes keeps poise at Sea Island golf

Canadian golfer Mackenzie Hughes has a one-shot lead going into the final round of the US PGA tournament in Georgia.

Canadian Mackenzie Hughes atoned for a triple bogey with three birdies for a two-under 68 and a one-shot lead going into the final round of the US PGA Tour event in Georgia.

Hughes showed plenty of poise for a 25-year-old rookie.

He was three shots ahead when he tried to do too much from a tough lie in a fairway bunker on the 11th hole at Sea Island and compounded his errors with a three-putt that wiped out his three shot lead.

He bounced back with a tough pitch to save par, three birdies and walked off at 16 under, leading American Billy Horschel, Colombian Camilo Villegas and Taiwan's CT Pan.

Cameron Percy is the leading Australian in a tie for 26th after closing with a two under to be nine under for the tournament.
