Human remains found after NSW housefire

A 14-year-old girl is believed to have perished in a fire at her home at Toomelah, in northern NSW.

Human remains discovered in a burnt-out northern NSW home are believed to be those of a teenage girl.

Emergency services were called to the residence at Toomelah Mission, Boggabilla, on the Queensland border, about 1.30am (AEST) on Friday to find it alight.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and all occupants were found safe, except for a 14-year-old girl.

It was thought she hadn't been inside when the fire was extinguished, and police appealed for public help finding her.

But investigators have since found remains among the burnt debris.

They are yet to be formally identified but are believed to belong to the missing girl.
