A migration body says about 500 suspected migrants are feared drowned after their boat sank near Malta last week.

This year has seen a surge in the numbers of people attempting to make the perilous crossing from north Africa and the Middle East to Europe.

The International Organization for Migration has called on the international community to protect migrants from making the journeys.

IOM representative, Joel Millman, spoke to Zara Zaher about the latest incident.
