Hunt didn't deserve to be axed: McGregor

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor says he's disappointed for Ben Hunt following his axing as Queensland halfback for State of Origin III.

Ben Hunt didn't deserve to be axed as Queensland halfback for State of Origin III, St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor says.

The Maroons gave Hunt just two games in the Origin series - both defeats - before opting to dump him in favour of Daly Cherry-Evans.

"I still feel that Benny didn't do enough wrong. But I'm not a selector and not a Queenslander," McGregor said on Wednesday.
