Hunt on for Sydney driver in fatal hit-run

The hunt continues for a Sydney woman who fled the scene of a crash that left a cyclist dead and his bike dragged down a residential street.

A Sydney driver who "callously" failed to stop to help a cyclist she'd hit remains at large.

The woman, believed aged in her 30s, has been on the run since she struck the rider in the backstreets of Lidcombe shortly before 5pm on Tuesday.

Police on Wednesday doorknocked homes in the area hoping to find CCTV or witnesses.

Some CCTV uncovered shows the woman's silver Toyota sedan dragging the bike under its front left wheel before the motorist stops, reverses to free the bike and then speeds off.

"It's very callous," Inspector Katie Orr told reporters.

"Just to think that the person didn't stop and render any aid to that person is very distressing to all involved."

The rider, aged 66 from Cammeray, died at the scene.
