Environment Minister Greg Hunt says the government will push ahead with a public competition for naming Australia's new icebreaker vessel, but has ruled as ineligible entries such as Boaty McBoatface.
The UK's Natural Environment Research Council turned to crowdsourcing to find a name for its new research ship, with Boaty McBoatface emerging the clear winner in a poll.
"I'm ruling that out from the outset," Mr Hunt told reporters of the British suggestion.
"What we really want to do is engage schoolchildren, we want to engage people in the scientific community, the general population, in putting forward proposals," he said of the competition which will be launched soon, after construction contracts for the icebreaker are finalised.
