Victorian golfer Cameron Percy has Hurricane Matthew to thank for helping secure a PGA Tour card for next season after the final qualification tournament was cancelled because of bad weather.
However the cancellation of the event ruined any hope veteran Stuart Appleby and fellow Australian Rhein Gibson had of winning a full Tour card.
The Web.com Tour Championship was to start on Thursday at Atlantic Beach Country Club in Florida, but the threat of the hurricane led city officials to order an evacuation of beaches in Jacksonville, and the PGA Tour had little choice but to wipe out the event.
Percy was sitting 24th heading into the fourth and final tournament with the top 25 earning cards for the PGA Tour season that starts next week.
Percy scraped through by a mere $US527 ($A692), with the final card going to New Zealand's Tim Wilkinson, who was $US392 ($A514) clear of unlucky American Rob Oppenheim.
A year ago, Oppenheim got the final card by $US101 ($A133).
Of the other Australians, Cameron Smith finished third, Rod Pampling 11th and Brett Drewitt 16th.
Heading into the final tournament, Appleby - who has won nine times on the PGA Tour - was ranked 33rd while Gibson was 45th.
Ranked 143rd on the overall standings, Appleby has narrowly retained conditional status on the PGA Tour.
