Hobart will have to overturn a daunting zero-and-five record against the Sydney Sixers if they are to make their first Women's Big Bash League final.
After entering the tournament as outsiders, the Hurricanes shocked the competition by reaching their second consecutive finals series on Saturday after a final-over win against the higher-profile Melbourne Stars.
Brisbane meet Perth in the first semi-final on Wednesday as the Hurricanes deal with a case of deja vu .
After qualifying second last year, Hobart were trounced by 10-wickets in a rain-affected match by the Sydney side last summer.
They have also been beaten by them twice in this season's tournament, as well as in both their meeting's during last summer's regular season.
They'll be particularly weary of seamer Sarah Aley at the Gabba on Wednesday afternoon., who has claimed 12 wickets in their five clashes at an average of 6.8
Meanwhile, Saturday's win over the Stars at Bellerive Oval consigned the Melbourne side to miss their second-consecutive finals series despite their star-studded line up.
Coming into the final day of the regular season in third position, the Stars needed to either defeat Hobart, or have Brisbane lose to Adelaide, to qualify for the top four.
However those hopes began to eradicate when both the last-placed Strikers and Heat were tied on 127 at the end of their 20 overs.
Adelaide then endured a difficult super over, scoring just 3-4 before Brisbane chased down the target in two balls.
The Stars then still remained in the hunt, when they had the Hurricanes 6-124, in pursuit of 136 for victory, heading into the last over.
However Corrine Hall and Emma Thompson both struck boundaries straight of the wicket to wrap up the Hobart win with a ball to spare, sealing the Stars' fate.
The Sixers path to the finals and top spot was much simpler after they easily accounted for the Melbourne Renegades by 35 runs on Saturday, Alyssa Healy top scoring with 84 off just 56 balls.
Meanwhile Brisbane will take on Perth at the WACA on Tuesday, after the Scorchers stumbled against defending-champions Sydney Thunder on Saturday to throw away the minor premiership.
After posting 4-131 from their 20 overs, and watching the Thunder fly to 1-84 in the 13th over, the Scorchers claimed 3-2 late in the innings to send flutters through the Sydney team's camp.
However they eventually chased own the target with five balls and five wickets to spare, meaning Perth were left second on the ladder, eying a fixture with the fast-finishing Heat who have won three of their last four.
The two teams have split their two matches between them so far this summer.
