It just might be this year's great Valentine's Day story, and an Australian is one of the people responsible for telling the world.
Melbourne-born Monash University graduate Elliot Kotek, co-founder of the Californian-based media and technology organisation Not Impossible, and his team have released a short documentary, 'Don's Voice', about one of their new projects.
"This Valentine's Day we want people to be touched by the heart-warming love story of Don and Lorraine," Kotek, 42, said.
Don Moir, a farmer, husband and father of three in rural Canada, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease/ALS, in 1995 and, week by week, lost motor-neurological functions.
In 1999 Moir was fitted with a ventilator, resulting in him being unable to speak.
The Not Impossible team, through technology, was able to allow Don to independently write a love letter to his wife Lorraine.
In the six-minute video, viewers watch as Moir tells his wife for the first time in 15 years, "I Love You, Lorraine".
Through a computer program, Don says to his wife: "My dear Lorraine, I can't imagine life without you. You have made the last 25 years fly by and the last 20 years with ALS more bearable. I am looking forward to the next 25 years. Love, Don."
"The #VoiceYourLove campaign is a reminder for people not to take their loved ones for granted.
"Inspired by the endurance of love between Don and Lorraine Moir, we want people to use the hashtag #VoiceYourLove on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to let those close to them know they love them and appreciate them through the good times, and the harder stuff, too."
