Tasmania's cricketing woes are likely to continue for at least another season but the road to recovery has started with a review by Mike Hussey highlighting numerous areas needing improvement, including player recruitment.

Lacklustre results across all formats, including two successive last-place Sheffield Shield finishes, culminated in the sacking of first-grade and Big Bash League coaches Dan Marsh and Damien Wright respectively, plus the removal of cricket general manager Andrew Dykes.

Hussey was brought in to find what was going wrong and on Tuesday his extensive list of 33 recommendations was revealed by Chief Executive Nick Cummins.

"From my experience going through similar transformational programs, it can take two to three years before you start to see success," Cummins told reporters of how long it will take to effect change.

"It can happen quicker than that and with the player roster we have and staff around them we hope it can happen relatively quickly."

Before the review was completed new senior coach Adam Griffith was appointed, along with Hobart Hurricanes manager, South African, Gary Kirsten.

Hussey also recommended a targeted recruitment strategy identifying the best under-19 to under-21 players and signing up players on the fringe of interstate XIs.

Cummins, who started as boss in April admitted Tasmanian cricket has been below par compared to other states.

"There's no doubt the scoreboard has shown we haven't been performing to expectation," he said.

"We've come off the back of an outstanding era where we've punched above our weight and now we're in an era where we are, as the ladder would show, if not on the bottom then down near the bottom.

"If we get those foundations right then we can push our way back up the table again."

Hussey also suggested improvements or expansion of training facilities across Tasmania, including hosting Sheffield Shield and Matador Cup matches at grounds other than Bellerive Oval.

"I hope my report will assist Tasmanian cricket in the short and long term and be a sound launching pad for ongoing success," Hussey said.
