I want Aloisi to stay: Lavicka

Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka says he wants the A-League club to re-sign former Socceroos striker John Aloisi for next season.

Aloisi, who will lead the side into Saturday night's preliminary final against Wellington, comes off contract at the end of this campaign and has been linked with a move to new franchise Melbourne Heart.

Sydney FC are in talks with the 34-year-old about staying after reportedly being put off by the cost of signing Dutchman Sergio van Dijk.

The chances of Aloisi remaining in the sky blue colours next season appeared to improve further on Friday, with Lavicka admitting he would keep the striker if it was up to him.

"We know that Johnny is still able to play and, it's hard to say now, but we are discussing about this possibility for the future," Lavicka said.

"Me personally, I would like to keep him for the job here at Sydney FC, that's my personal view."

Czech Lavicka, who has extended his contract into next season with Sydney, said Aloisi was as asset for both for his ability and experience.

"I have to say, it's easy for me as a coach and easy for us as coaching staff to have players around like Johnny," Lavicka said.

"He's a very smart, experienced player and good player on the pitch as well.

"It's easy to build up the younger players around him and also because we have people like Steve Corica and Simon Colosimo."

Asked about his future on Friday, Aloisi reiterated his only focus was Sydney's pursuit of the A-League championship trophy.

"I'm concentrating on the game, focusing on winning the game and at the end of the season we'll see," said the marquee striker, who would have to take a significant pay cut to remain with Sydney.

Reports last month suggested Aloisi, who has played in the top divisions in England, Spain and Italy, had already agreed to join the Heart but his manager Paddy Dominguez denied any deals had been done.
