'I will stick up for Longman': Lamb

Returned Labor MP Susan Lamb has vowed to improve the lives of Queenslanders in her electorate north of Brisbane after claiming victory on Saturday.

Susan Lamb says she is back-in-business after being returned to federal office following a by-election in her marginal Queensland seat on Saturday.

The triumphant Labor MP made a victory lap alongside Opposition Leader Bill Shorten in Narangbar on Sunday, where she promised to fight to improve the lives of voters in her Longman electorate.

"It is not an honour or a privilege that I take lightly, I know it comes with a lot of responsibility," Ms Lamb told reporters.

A by-election in her working class seat north of Brisbane was one of five held across the country on what was dubbed Super Saturday, sparked by a dual citizenship crisis affecting MPs from all sides of politics.

The result in Longman, where Liberal National Party candidate Trevor Ruthenberg's campaign led to further decline in primary support for the party, has been viewed as a potential signal of what may play out at the next general poll.

But Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull downplayed Labor's victory.

"This was a conventional swing in one electorate, absolutely an average swing," he said on Sunday.

"The real test of a public opinion and political opinion is obviously at elections."
