Ibrahim son to face court after Syd raids

Four people, including the son and girlfriend of Kings Cross nightlife figure John Ibrahim, will face court in Sydney after a massive police sting.

The son and girlfriend of Kings Cross nightlife figure John Ibrahim will face court after a massive police sting that netted members of Sydney's most high-profile underworld families.

More than 570 AFP officers took part in Tuesday's dawn raids across Sydney, seizing $5.45 million that police allege was the proceeds of crime.

The drugs they seized had an estimated street value of $810 million, police say.

The 17 people arrested included nine men and one woman in Sydney, five people in Dubai and two people in The Hague.

John Ibrahim is not under suspicion, despite his luxury eastern suburbs house being raided.

Mr Ibahim's son Daniel, 26, will face a Sydney court on Wednesday charged with a range of offences, including conspiracy to import drugs and dealing in the proceeds of crime.

Mr Ibrahim's 27-year-old model girlfriend Sarah Budge, will also face a Sydney court charged with possessing an illegal firearm.

Australian authorities said the Sydney raids that busted a high-profile drug syndicate were "only the beginning" as they target organised criminals who operate overseas.

The haul, seized in the Netherlands last month, included 1.8 tonnes of MDMA, 136kg of cocaine and 15kg of crystal meth.

AFP Assistant Commissioner Neil Gaughan said there was an incorrect perception among organised crime syndicates that once a person is overseas they are "untouchable".

"This is only the beginning," he said on Tuesday.

Two other men arrested in the raids will face court on Wednesday, while another three men, including the brother of slain gangland kingpin Wally Ahmad, were refused bail on drug-smuggling charges in court on Tuesday.
